Saffron threads are the dried stigmas of the saffron crocus flower. Each flower blooms for just three weeks and produces only 3 saffron threads, which then need to be hand-harvested, making saffron the rarest (and most expensive) spice in the world. Saffron threads impart a vibrant golden color and a fragrant, sweet, and grassy flavor that works for both sweet and savory dishes. They are a fundamental ingredient in a variety of dishes from around the world: from Spanish paella to Italian risotto alla milanese, from Indian curries to Scandinavian St. Lucy’s buns. The threads are usually immersed in a bit of water or milk for a couple hours so that they fully release their color, and then added to the preparation. We source our saffron threads from Spain, only get threads that have been classified as belonging to the highest international quality grade (ISO grade 1), and hand-package them in a light-proof bag. Naturally vegan and gluten-free.
