Grey sea salt is an unrefined sea salt. Translated from the French term “Sel Gris,” it is harvested in the French region of Brittany. It is harvested by hand, by scraping the bottom of the salt pans after the sun and wind have evaporated seawater and the top layer of white Fleur De Sel has been raked off. The clay lining of the salt ponds is responsible for both the gray color and mineral flavor of the salt. Grey salt is traditionally used in French, Spanish and Italian cuisines, both as a cooking and finishing salt, and its mineral complexity makes it an excellent match for hearty foods like root vegetables, cheeses and meat, as well as a garnish for chocolates and caramels. Naturally vegan and gluten-free.
