Turmeric is a brightly yellow colored spice, very prominent in South Asian cuisine. It is mostly used as an ingredient for curries and masala, but also as a natural dye for both foods and fabrics. It can also be used in place of the more expensive saffron to impart a yellow color to rice, bread, and pasta dough. When consumed raw, such as in turmeric lattes or mixed with honey, it is said to have anti-inflammatory properties, beneficial to achy joints especially.
