Pink Himalayan salt is a hand-mined salt harvested from deep inside the foothills of the Himalayas. This salt naturally contains trace elements of many essential minerals, and it is very popular because of its natural origin and beautiful, marbled pink color. The salt crystals are quite small, so they can be used as is without having to go through a salt mill, and come in varying shades of pink to deep red, quite resembling small glass beads. The flavor is very similar to sea salt, but because of its striking color, Himalayan pink salt is often used as a finishing salt to add a dash of flair, rather than as a cooking salt. Aside from sprinkling onto anything like meat and vegetables, this salt is really nice to use for salting rims of cocktails and for garnishing sweets such as caramels.
